I know that it isn't all about ME! but my cousin Peggy from California has been posting photos of ME! when I was little on facebook. She found these in my Aunt Esther's photo stash and I've never seen them.

I Want Something PINK For My Birthday!

Yes today is my birthday and I want this...I'm hoping my husband surprises me!

On Christmas day going to my bothers for brunch I saw this PINK Caddy and said WOW I want that! Made my DH stop and snap some photos. He thinks it was made in the early 1950's when they really built cars well. Or maybe he said the early 1960's...whatever it sure is a beauty! Makes me think of Elvis. Guess I'm really showing my age...yes today I'm 67!

It's All About Nathan

Nathan is my grandson and he lives in North Carolina with his mom and dad (my son). They where here for Thanksgiving and we went to the Science Center here in Pittsburgh on Black Friday. As you can see it was a beautiful warm day and Nathan had a great time...we all did!

The only good thing about not decorating too much... it's easy to take down! Here are some pics of our Christmas tree the only decoration I put up two days before Christmas.

Most of these ornaments where picked up at estate or garage sales. Those two Santas I got at craft shows.

For many years I collected Santas and have many bins in the basement filled with that collections but have not put them out for years. I think it's time to gift those to my children!

A Hoarders Estate Sale!!

It's Saturday morning and my sister and I are heading out to find that ultimate treasures at the local estate and garage sales. I have mapped out 12 stops on my Yard Sale Treasures Map. If you have not tried Yard Sale Treasure Map you should try it...it will give you the garage sales listed on Craigslist in your area plus you can add the sales listed in your local paper then it gives directions to each one. Sure makes finding the sales much easier!

We stop at the first sale which is only about 2 miles from my house, there are things in the yard, garage and all three floors of the house! Inside the front door was the living room filled with boxes and things piles all over the floor, then to the right was a room filled about 3 ft. high with boxes and lots of clothes and just a little pathway to walk through! I headed for the basement (I always find great things in basements) it also was filled with boxes loaded with all kinds of STUFF. I started to load up my big bag with all the things I found interesting and thought I could sale on Ebay..nothing was priced..so with my arms and bag full I found someone to pay - I asked how much? She said what do you want to pay I said $5.00 she said OK. WOW can you believe that!! She helped me take everything to my car then I went back into the house to find more treasures!

I must have carried treasures out of the house 6 or 7 times with as much as I could get in that big bag and load into my arms and each time I paid only $5.00. My sister also found lots of clothes most of which had never been worn. OMG what fun we had!

We had been there about 3 hours and my sister had to go to work so we left and had some lunch she when home and I headed back to that house!! Never did make it to the other 11 garage sales!

I'm keeping this lamp!

My husband wanted to go to this estate sale also so the next day Sunday we went back and I carried more things out of that house (the first photo of the car is from the second day!) I asked if they would be having a sale the next weekend and was told this had been the 4th weekend of sales the other 3 where for family and friends! I'm waiting for another estate sale like this one...so much fun!

Recently I joined a local garden club and last night we went on a "field trip" to tour Alpha Dahlias in Sewickley, PA. Wow what a great place Evy Rogers has and here are lots of photos I took of the most beautiful dahlias!

Road Trip to Presque Isle, Erie PA

Seems like all I do is say I'm sorry for not posting...again! We did some interesting things this summer and I never did a post about our "Road Trips" until now.

We went to Presque Isle, Erie PA had not been there in many years probably 4 or 5. The beach area still looked the same

There is something so relaxing just being on the beach even if you don't go in the water. Visiting Presque Isle brought back lots of memories of being a kid and going there every July for vacation with Mom & Dad and us 5 kids! I don't know how my Mom packed everything for 7 of us in a Chevy! I guess they did have big trunks then! We would stay at a small old motel then go to the beach early every morning and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner on the beach. Boy did we ever get sun burned! We sure did have a good time..really miss those days sometimes.

This pink and white swirl vase is about 5" tall and

there are no markings on it.

Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers and mine are doing great this year! The colors of this one is just beautiful ...there is some pinks, purple, and blue.

This hydrangea has not been trimmed back in about 4 or 5 years but it's getting really tall so I'm thinking of trimming it this year. Hope it blooms next year. Enjoy your Friday!

A Major Clean Up!

Image via WikipediaNo I'm not cleaning up my home...which really needs it! I'm doing an EMAIL clean up or should I say a unsubscribe with the hundreds of email I just delete everyday. For the last 5 days I've been opening every email on 4 of my accounts and doing the unsubscribe. It really takes a long time but I do see some progress I'm not getting nearly the emails as before.

Everyone wants your email address and sometimes they send 2 or more emails a day. I'm going to be much more picky who gets my address from now on.

I hope everyone is doing well...I'm going to start posting more often and be by to visit all of you!

PINK Dolphin on PINK Saturday!

Yes it is a PINK Dolphin very hard to believe! I received an email with these photos and following story.

Think pink .... you're not seeing the world through rose-coloured glasses: This albino dolphin is pink.

Unique ... the bottlenose - first spotted in Lake Calcasieu , an inland saltwater estuary in Louisiana , by boat captain Erik Rue, 42, in 2007 - has surfaced again.

Rare sight ... "Pinky" is believed to be the only pink dolphin in the world, and has "reddish" eyes. It is usually spotted with its dark grey mother.

Healthy glow ... "The dolphin appears to be healthy and normal other than its coloration, which is quite beautiful and stunningly pink," said Mr Rue, who estimates he has spotted Pinky more than 40 times.

I would really love to see this PINK Dolphin!

Yes I'm Irish but my family never really celebrated St Patrick's Day while I was growing up. Today I don't celebrate the way some of my Irish friends do but I do honor my heritage. Hopefully some day I'll get visit Ireland. I find Irish music very entertaining and love the song When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.

The lyrics to When Irish Eyes Are Smiling were written by Chauncey Olcott and George Graff, Jr. and set to the music of Enerst Ball for Olcott's production of The Isle O' Dreams. The music was published in 1912.

Where Have I Been?

Yes where have I been? Good questions! Every day seems to be joined to the next with not a thing exciting happening. I keep thinking there has to be something useful I could be doing..instead of reading, hopping around on the internet, watching TV..well you get the picture. There is not one little bit of motivation in this body and soul of mine!

In the mail this week came this pretty envelope addressed to Queen Esther! I love getting mail and this is so special! It came all the way from Everett Washington that must be about 2000 miles from Jacqueline. Now I wasn't really sure who Jacqueline was but I decided right then she must be a friend to take the time to send real mail and not just email!

I opened the envelope and inside was this sweet card

It's PINK Saturday Again!!

This time of year I love to snuggle under blankets and throws and just keep warm. While I'm all warm and cozy it's time to read and watch TV usually both at the same time! Drives my husband crazy! I must get my lazy self out of the house..so tomorrow I'm going to hit some estate sales there are 4 listed in the paper plus one garage sale. Hopefully there will be some wonderful treasures to show you!

While keeping warm I've also been dreaming of my garden and flowers. There have been a few cataloges and a Home & Gardens Gardening Magazine delivered recently. So many beautiful flowers and it's so hard to decide which I want to have in the garden! I did find the Pink Superstore and they have all kinds of pink stuff for the garden. I think this is sweet

Here is some pink roses, clematis from my garden last year..it's time to dream!

It's been awhile since I've posted anything and it just kept getting harder to post. I even thought about not blogging any more. Well a PINK Saturday post just seems what I need to get started again! Happy Birthday Leslie!

Today is my first child Leslie's birthday. How in the world did she ever get to be the same age as me 39! It feels me with great joy when I remember the day she was born!! Back then we never knew the sex of our baby until they where born..it was like open a Christmas present! They brought her to me in a red stocking and hat, oh how adorable she was. I was in the hospital for Christmas but it didn't matter because I had waited 5 years for her and I was very happy.

I couldn't find a picture of her when she was born

and in that stocking and hat but here are some others.

Leslie at 4 months. She had cast on both legs because her feet turned in.

She was a climber here she is on the kitchen table!

Here she is all grown up and still beautiful!

Leslie still fills my heart with JOY and LOVE! Only one thing could make things better and that would be living closer! Happy Birthday honey!!

I'm looking for a Smokey the Bear Boy Scout hat. It's for my brother who still loves boy scouts at 55 years old! He's very involved in scouting again since his son is a scout... he does everything camping, hiking and what ever his son does he does plus he's a leader and trainer. He had the Smokey the Bear hat when he was a young scout but it's been lost since we cleaned out the family home years ago. Yesterday I was getting my website ready for the upcoming Christmas Carnival on SaturdayNovember 28th which I'm participating in. Last night about 1 AM I was working on my needle felted Angel Snowman for my giveaway and needed some blue ribbon...it has to be here some where!

Maybe it's in one of the bins - sitting here at my computer I see 4 plastic bins and don't really know what's in any of them except stuff for crafts, Ebay, personal?

Pulled all of this out of the green bin (my favorite way of organizing)

Here's a bag from the church thirft store - everything was 1/2 price paid $1.25 for all these treasures!

Never did find any blue ribbon but I'm really frustrated and unhappy about my cluttered Shabby Cottage. This isn't something that just happened recently but the clutter had gotten much worse since selling on Ebay (inventory!), blogging and my re-interest in crafting.
So today I decided to clean up around here and started a new blog

Just finished needle felting this sweet PINK Angel. She is on her way to a new home in Canada! Hope her new owner loves her as much as I do!! She's holding a bouquet of vintage glass balls and has a halo of twisted wire other than that she's all needle felted with wool.

Tribute to a Very Sweet Friend

Tomorrow I will be attending a memorial service for a dear friend who's last years where very difficult and painful. First she was in a car accident that left her unable to work because of horrible back pain, then she was diagnosed with breast cancer which took her life this week.

Blog Anniversary Giveaway 1 Year!

That's right! This week I had my 100 post and November 3rd is my one year blog anniversary! I decided to combine the two and have a giveaway. What better day to tell you about it than on PINK Saturday since I have some PINK in my giveaway.

When I started my blog I knew zero about blogging just read that blogging was a good way to get folks to my Ebay listing and website. Well blogging is so much more!! Fountains Turn PINK In Pittsburgh

All the fountains in Pittsburgh are PINK in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This has been going on four years but I never knew about it!

The Pennsylvania Commission for Women turned the fountain at Point State Park pink to raise awareness about the incidence of Breast Cancer and the benefits of an early diagnosis.They hope the fountain will serve as a reminder for women to do monthly breast self-exams and schedule yearly mammograms. One out of every 7 women in Pennsylvania will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

This is the fountain at the court house.

Rivers Casino FUN!

Today my husband and I went to the Rivers Casino for the first time. The Casino just opened here in Pittsburgh in August. We met up with his aunt and uncle and we all had a grand time! Once your inside the casino it's like your in a cocoon (and I'm sure that how they want you to feel) without a worry in the world! First we ate at the Grandview Buffet and it was very good. After lunch I took out my $20 bill and started to play the penny slots. That $20 lasted me 3 hours and I came home with four cents. Not bad for 3 hours of fun!

I didn't take my camera so had to search the internet for some photo of the casino. Next time I'll take my camera...there are lots of beautiful things to see.

Life's Not Fair Sometimes!

When my kids where young they would say "That's not fair!" and I'd tell them that life is not fair sometimes. Well this is one of those no fair times in my life. It's taken me a few days to build up the courage to post about this...but here goes.

HAIR !! I mean Facial Hair.

As we get older life should be very pleasant and non stressful,

we should not have to deal with all of this

Not only is hair growing at a very fast rate on my chin, under my chin, neck, and upper lip but two days ago I found a long white hair (at least 3") growing

out of the middle of my forehead!!

How long do you think it was there?

My husband said he never saw it but

like me he can't see anything even with glasses!

So talk about unfair just when you need to have great vision to find all those hairs that spring up daily...your vision goes, you can only see with a magnifying mirror...mine is X15. That's how I found the great white one!!

I'm a little less emotional after posting this - it always helps to talk to a friend! Thanks for being there and is anyone else having hair problems?

Great Garage Sale Find

My husband and I were out Saturday doing our usual shopping for treasures at garage sales. At our last stop - I walked around the corner of the house and found THIS sign hanging on the fence!! Now this is a real treasure - it has my name on it and I love to garden! Of course they were not planning on selling it, their father had made it in memory of their mother, now both were in heaven. I was disappointed but surely understood but a few minutes later they said they would sell it to me. Yippee! Now it's proudly displayed on my porch.

Decided to join the party at Southern Hospitality today for Thrifty Monday. There are a ton of people participating today so be sure and visit.

I took all my photos but OMG all my roosters had dust and cobwebs on them!! Yes I had to clean all the rooster and take the photos again..but please excuse any dust I missed!

The top photos are taken in my breakfast room.

Love that big rooster cookie jar.

That Willow Farm sign and metal rooster are on my back porch.

My sister Kathy gave me the rooster wall hanging. That rooster below wall hanging is what started my collection, it was bought at a thrift shop.

The old cabinet came from my parents home. It's a medicine cabinet. My family thinks I should paint it but I like it the way it is.

More in my breakfast room.

The blue cabinet was bought at a craft show I just had to have it! It is in my kitchen.
I painted the rooster in the pot with strawberries years and years ago when taking lessons.

Saved the best for last....my grandson Nathan

Painting Astilbe Flowers

Yesterday while visiting Sherry's blog Creations from My Heart she posted about spray painting Astilbe flowers! I found that an amazing idea. Today I spray painted my Astilbe. Sherry's colors are much brighter than mine but there still is a difference after spray painting.

This one I spray painted pink.

and this one is spray painted lavender.

I did get some paint on the leaves but it's way too hot to fix it now!

I have one more that I want to spray paint white but I'm going to wait
until it cools down a little maybe there are other flowers that could use
come paint!

PINK Saturday - PINK Toilet Paper?

It's Friday night about 11:45 PM and tomorrow is PINK Saturday and I'm not ready..again!! I have lots of PINK things to show you but no photos - my husband and I where out all day playing and we had a good time!

So I searched the net for PINK bathrooms and here are some amazing photos. PINK toilet paper this roll is probably from the 50's - most company's stopped making colored toilet paper back then because doc's said it was bad for our skin.

Here's a pretty PINK toilet maybe I could plant some flowers in it.

Patty from Attic Full of Clutter pulled my name from her followers to win this lovely pincushion! I received it over the weekend and I've already started using it for my needle felting needles and it's perfect!

This needle felted mouse "Betsy" is one of my newest creations.

Betsy is a little over 4" high, made of 100% wool and is wrapped in a needle felted flag. She used the flag to keep warm while watching fireworks on the 4th of July.

Betsy only needs to have her whiskers and she'll be ready for adoption.

Thanks again Patty. All my needles fit on this large pinchusion and they are very handy when I'm working.

A PINK Bloom on PINK Saturday

Had to show you this PINK begonia. I planted 10 bulbs and this is the first to bloom. This flower must be 6 or 7 inches across! There is a mix of colors in these begonia bulbs and I can't wait for the other to start blooming.

Stephen Foster Festival Photos

Where has this week gone! I've been wanting to post this all week and kept forgetting. My DH and I attended the Stephen Foster Festival last Saturday and had a wonderful relaxing day.

The festival was held at Allegheny Cemetery where Stephen Foster is buried. Foster was born in Pittsburgh on July 4, 1826 and died January 13, 1864 at age 37 from a severe fall in New York City. Some of the songs he composed are: Oh! Susanna, Camptown Races, Nelly Bly, Old Folks at Home, My Old Kentucky Home and Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair. Just a little history lesson!

This couple is with Allegheny Minstrels and re-create the music of the 19th century in historically correct costume.

This group of ladies are with Voices of Confederacy a Civil War Living History Group.
There primary mission is to educate the public on the history of the
Ware for Southern Independence.

We sat on the grass and enjoyed the music of Home Front.
They represent those who served the war efforts from home.

I believe this group is with the 9th Infantry.

Beautiful and cooling fountain.

Ship's Company is a living history group dedicated to the preservation of the

American maritime heritage.

Fertilizer Friday at Tootsie Time

It's been a great year for my garden! Maybe it's because I've been fertilizing like Tootsie said I should! Stop at Tootsie's and see the others participating this week. Last year I really trimmed this clematis back and look how beautiful it is this year. Clematis are one of my favorite vines.

These impatients are planted in an old two sides mop bucket.

After all the daisys and daylilies bloom that pretty much it for the perennials.

Hopefully the annuals really start to make a show.

This is my first tipsy pots when you run out of garden space go up.
Saw these tipsy pots at Cindees Garden and decided to give it a try.

2009 Steven Foster Music and Heritage Festival (Doo Dah Days)

I know some of you live in the Pittsburgh area and might enjoy attending the Steven Foster Music and Heritage Festival which will be this Saturday July 11, 12 to 5. The Lawrenceville Historical Society, together with the Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association, have organized this festival(Doo Dah Days!). The event takes place in Allegheny Cemetery, the sixth oldest rural cemetery in the United States. It does seem a little strange to have a festival in a cemetery but this is the 3rd annual event.

There will be four folk bands, specializing in Stephen Foster era music, educational tours of Allegheny Cemetery (including Foster's burial place), costumed re-enactors and other outdoor activities. Visit this web site and learn more about he event and Steven Foster .

Fertilizer Friday

Thanks Tootsie for hosting Fertilizer Friday's it's one of my favorite days. These lilies are blooming right now in my garden they are just beautiful! One of these are taller then me and I'm 5'4".

Yesterday I stopped at Home Depot and they still have so many flowers it looks like the beginning of spring. I've noticed that lots of places still have many flowers this late in the season. Is that happening where you live?

PINK Saturday

Here it is Friday night and I'm thinking about this pink Saturday post and have no photos ready...and too tired to take any plus my camera needs charged. Why do I wait to the last minutes to get things done? This week has been very busy with lunch with friends and family, doctor's appointments for husband and lots of other running around. So anyhow here is some PINK stuff I found on the net.

Fertilizer Friday

Tooties at Tooties Time is hosting Fertilizer Friday she has the most amazing garden so visit her blog and take a peek! This year my husband wanted to plant some tomatoes and a few other things but we had never planted this area it was all grass. Thankfully a dear neighbor took up all the sod, turned over the dirt and then used his rotatiller and gave us this wonderful garden area.

This is the last blooms of this clematis and the following pink and white one.

It really amazes me how much time it takes to keep the flower beds presentable with such a small garden. Here I trimmed back my forsythia bush it grows like a bad weed

This is the side yard see how close the house is next door on the left. That's our garage in the back with the ivy gowing on it. We're lucky to have a lot and a half or I would have not flowers.

Several years ago my husband and I were involved in some Civil War Reenacting and it was great fun! So I decided to get myself all dolled up in a Victorian Ball Gown for the costume party.

I love to twirl in it! Yet I think it's appropriate for a more mature women.

Just love these sleeves they cover my upper arm.

Now that I'm all dressed up it's off to Loveleigh Treasures for the party.

PINK Saturday 6/6

A few weeks ago I took my sister Cheri out to lunch for her birthday and then we did a little shopping. What else do you do after lunch!

And I found this cute pink bench.

And thought it would be perfect for some of my needle felted critters.

This bear was my first needle felting project.

Here's a snowman all decked out in Pittsburgh Steeler / Penguin colors!

This robin kinda looks cute on the bench.

These lambs look sweet on a pink bench.

And here is Hildie the country mouse...she's going to the Mouse Ball.

There are still many more felt critters hanging around the house and they are multiplying! Do you think I should try to sell them? How do you decide how much to charge? I've never sold anything I've made...maybe I should just buy more benches!
